Apatite is easily confused with other minerals due to its variety of colors and formations, and it’s name is derived from the Greek “apate,” which means to deceive. Apatite has been labeled the deceitful stone due to its close resemblance to other much more valuable gems. In rare and highly sought after specimens, Apatite can exhibit chatoyancy an uncommon optical phenomenon in some stones that resembles the light reflection of a cats eye.
